Quark PFT needs low maintenance costs and no technical expertise and can be easily upgraded at any time with the following available modules:
The basic configuration of the PFT system includes all features and hardware for spirometry testing (FVC, SVC, MMV and BP). Three different flowmeter configurations are available for spirometry measurements: digital turbine, single use pneumotach (Flowsafe) and multi-use pneumotach (X9).
Q-Box is available either as a standalone unit (cabin plus PFT laboratory) or as an integrated module for the Quark PFT product. It is a new generation body box for Static Lung Volumes (TLC, RV, ITGV) and Airway Resistance and Conductance (RAW, GAW) measurement through the Gold Standard body plethysmography technique. The Q-Box is a variable-pressure body plethysmograph (Constant-Volume) with extremely fast times of stabilisation and calibration. The large cabin volume (873 litres) provides comfort and ease of access both for adults and special populations.
The lung volumes module adds the possibility to test Functional Residual Capacity (FRC) via multi-breath Nitrogen Wash-out and single-breath 100% O2 techniques. These are a good and more affordable alternative to body plethysmography for lung volume measurement. Instead of a conventional N2 analyzer, the choice of using fast and accurate O2 and CO2 analyzers simplifies significantly ordinary maintenance and calibration procedures. The user can detect automatically or manually the 4 phases composing the washout curve, including the slope of the alveolar plateau. The software provides also data elaboration tools and quality control messages throughout the test maneuver.
This module for the Quark PFT allows lung diffusing capacity measurements with different test options: single-breath, intrabreath and membrane diffusion. The measurement of the diffusing capacity of Carbon Monoxide (CO) in the lungs is made through the continuous analysis of CO fractions and methane (CH4 the tracer) with two extremely fast infrared analyzers. The powerful software features allow flexible and customisable testing, like graphical leak detection during breath hold or different available standards for breath hold (Jones, Ogilvie and ESP). The DLCO single-breath dilution technique can also be used to provide an accurate measurement of lung volumes.
The respiratory mechanics module enables the execution of tests for the evaluation of respiratory muscles strength and their severity through the Minimal Inspiratory Pressure (MIP) and the Maximal Expiratory Pressure (MEP) values. The mouth pressures recorded during these maneuvers are assumed to reflect respiratory muscle strength and are measured using a mouth pressure meter. The module can also measure the respiratory drive (P0.1) through the occlusion of the inspiratory line of the breathing valve. The P0.1 test can be performed with and without elevated inspiratory CO2.
The airway resistance module enables the measurement of respiratory resistance with interrupter technique (Rocc, RoccEX, RoccIN, Gav, etc.). The simplicity of the manoeuvre does not require collaboration by the patient, making this solution ideal for testing very non-collaborative subjects and children, making it a good alternative to body plethysmography. The module comes with a dedicated pneumotach for low flows measurement. All components of this module can be easily disinfected and antibacterial filters can be used to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination.
The dosimeter module allows to perform a controlled and more accurate management of bronchial challenge tests and an improved analysis of airways reactance. The module provides a nebulizer, powered by dry compressed air (it is required medical air/gas for drug inhalation) and connected to the flowmeter with dedicated tubing. The predefined dosing protocol is the ATS/ERS based “Five breaths”, but the advanced and flexible software interface allows the user to add personalised dosing protocols for supplied quantities of broncho-stimulants. Cleaning and disinfecting the nebulizer, tubing and mouthpieces are made extremely easy.
Quark PFT can be transformed in a compact metabolic cart for assessing pulmonary gas exchange and ventilatory responses during clinical exercise test.
